Due to low budgets, TagFest NorthWest might be moving to a new location this year.
This is just an update...
Nothing in concrete yet. This is what is currently going on in my mind. Our Christmas sales were pretty much nilch this year. The sales we did do with Phoenix units overseas all just about broke even due to the riddiculous shipping charges - tried to help out as best we could to share the fun. Rentals did good, but we are working on opening up a second office in Chicago to cut down on shipping costs for people on the East coast. Getting that branch set up is going to pretty much wipe out most of our excess funds from rentals, and trying to get ourselves out of financial debt from last year when Cathie was out of work for 5 months is going to consume the majoriety of the rest. What little is left has been set aside for various other projects - leaving the TagFest funding empty when at this point it generally has close to $1000.00 in it. If rentals continue to do well and our Chicago branch does okay, then there will be funding available, but it will be a slow ac*****ulation.
With this in mind, I'm leaning on attempting to go with a local (Springfield/Eugene, OR) site this year. As my only true expenses will be getting porta-potties and maybe covering a lunch. I thinking of going the way of breakfasts and dinners as just designating a place to meet, and let people fend for themselves. That would make the only served meal be a lunch. Of course we will provide full meals for those working on staff this year.
The schedule would be: -Wed Start Main Setup -Thursday finish main setup and prep for signup, maybe a few games for staff and helpers, lunch provided for staff and helpers -Friday first full day of game play clubs only, lunch provided for all -Saturday Play all day, lunch provided for all -Sunday, play some morning games if anyone is up to it - officially shut down at noon (leftovers lunch)
Since the drive is just 30mins across town..setup and teardown will not be as big of an issue as I will have multiple days to do it.
This will greatly cut down on the cost of throwing the event. I know alot of people that normally attend will not be able to make it and I fully understand. That will be offset by a large number of local players probably attending...which might push the numbers into 30-40 people attending if schedules don't conflict.
This will depend on the property owner, who to be honest I havnt' had a chance to talk to yet. Thus things are not in concrete, if the owner says no..then the alternative is the standard Magness Memorial tree park - however to use that site we would have to greatly scale back on things to:
Schedule: -Friday setup starting at noon. -Sat all day -Sunday cleanup after breakfast
Meals: We would only provide snacks. If people want to take a donation collection, we can have people run into town for pizza or something of that nature. We might be able to provide very simple lunches.
Currently I'm looking to late June...but once again I will need to work that out with the property owner and or the Tree Farm.
Hopefully I'll have a chance to get back out to the new location and take some pictures.
