   WHAT TO BRING: 2008
LT GEAR: Unless you have a specialized gun, there is no need to bring any tag gear as plenty will be available.  However if you have a "GOD GUN" then you might want to bring it for show and tell / bragging rights.    Although the main signal format we will be using is LTTO and Steradain.

MONEY/FOOD:   Each player is  asked to make a donation to the evnet to help cover the cost of the park rental, snacks, food an other items that will be provided.    Just donate what you can afford.   If you can't afford to pay in cash...then pay in kindness and help where you can.

1SLT will be providing simple meals.   There is also a town within 20 minutes drive of the park for those of you who want an alternative to our menu.   If you do eat with us, please consider donating enough to cover what you eat.   If you can't afford that...then pay for your meals by helping clean up afterwards.   With enough hands...clean up will be quick and easy.

It should be known that many people in years past have said we should call the event Tag Feast instead of Tag Fest since the food was so good....Dave dosen't scrimp when it comes to food!

CLOTHING:  We are sugguesting everyone bring at least one change of clothes in case for any reason you get wet or muddy.   At the very least bring 2 changes of socks - alot of running around means alot of foot sweat - as any good ground soldier will tell you - its important to take care of your feet.    If your feet reek...you may be asked to sleep with your feet duck taped in a bag, hanging out the window! (just kidding)

Note: Being that the event is going to be held in July this year..the temperature should be fairly warm....although we advise everyone to bring a light jacket / windbreaker just in case it gets a little chilly at night.

If you have camoflague clothing, this is a good time to use it!

Flashlights:   Anyone wanting to play in the night time games must have a flashlight that is in working order.   We advise bringing an extra set of batteries as well.

Due to the lack of flashlights last year - 1SLT will have brand new, cheap flashlights with aimable heads available for purchase this year...probably for $1 or $2.

Borrowing Gear:  We ask that anyone not bringing gear, please bring 6 decent AA batteries to replace the ones you will be using over the weekend.   All the gear provided will be sporting brand new batteries, most likely of the Duracell brand.

Accomidations:   There are 3 cabins...sleeping arrangements will be made on a first come, first reserve basis.   There is a motel listing at the bottom of this page for those who perfer not to rough it.   If you get in on the event early enough, arrangements are being made for discount group listings at the Comfort Inn (join Yahoo Group for more info).    There are 40 bunk beds in all, however, they have NO padding, so bring a good sleeping bag and an air or foam mattress pad if you need one.   The beds are the size of a LARGE camping cot, so be reasonable (a king size air matress will absolutely not work, although a queen size might work on some).    If snoring bothers you, I suggest getting ear plugs, as these kind of events have a tendency to sound like a bears den once people get to sleep!

A few additions which you may want to bring:

-Cameras.
-FRS radios/headsets
-Hiking boots.
-Headlamp, aside from your flashlight.
-Many layers of clothing (base layer, then insulating, etc.). It may get really chilly there at night, even if we're moving. And you may be a stationary sniper in the cold! Especially bring a cap or hat.
-Raingear, in case. (Ah! No rain, pleeease!)
-Duct tape.
-And of course your toothbrush Just kidding....but seriously, you are supposed to tag people out with your gun...not bad breath!

Anyways, these are just a few ideas

Note:There is no need to bring water or drinks as 1SLT will be providing a large selection for you...unless you drink something weird like green algea water...you should be covered.

If you'd like to help us out...

If you are willing to let us use them for the weekend, we could use some of the following gear:
Camoflage you'd like to give away or sell, extra flashlights,  and most important of all MUNCHIES AND SNACKS!

-WHAT IS TAGFEST

TagFest(TF) is an annual event thrown by 1SLT to allow people from the NW States of the U.S. or anywhere for that matter to get together and meet each other.     But the best part about TF is that various groups contribute gear so that we can do what we enjoy best...play LASER TAG ALL WEEKEND LONG!

Morning to afternoon is mainly made up of skirmish games.   This allows everyone to get to know everyone else and have alot of fun with very basic simple rules.   We stop for about an hour around lunchtime and 1SLT provides Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, & fixins.    As the day wears on we switch over to more themed games, and this year will be trying a few role playing games like our brethren taggers over in jolly ol' England.   In the late evening we play at least one unlimited class role playing game where everyone pulls out guns of their own design - weapons are catagorized and people are assigned to teams depending on their weapontry and skill level.    When people are "tagged out", they go to a dead zone, where teams can recruit them and get them back in the game!   The game goes on till a team accompishes its goal, or is wiped out.

At TagFest there are no loosers....everyone is a winner because they get to play tag.   This is the attitude that a true TF tagger carries!    If you find that you are the type of person who's feelings get hurt when you repeatedly are tagged out of a game, then please do not come.      EVERYONE gets tagged out sometime!   Besides, being in the Deadzone is fun too...thats when you get a chance to talk to other players and trade ideas and form alliences and friendships (oh, and Cathie, "DaBOSS" said to add...and MUNCH ON SNACKS! - some people call this even TagFeast..lol)!

In the evening when everyone is dying to be tagged out because they are too tired to pull a trigger...1SLT has rented 3 cabins which can house 40 people.    So, there is plenty of room to crash.      You will need to bring a sleeping bag or blankets as the beds lumberjack style......solid wood.

If the fire season allows, we will have a nice campfire going, and a Dinner will be available as well as snacks and drinks.   There is a lighted area with picnic benches and this is the time to swap stories, information, photos and gear.   We will also have a CD/DVD projector available if anyone wants to display some photos or footage (DaBoss says, or whatch a movie).    There will be discussion for holding another event in the fall, and what we can do to make things better next year.

-WHAT DOES IT COST?

First things first:    If you are financially having a hard time and in the area, don't let that stop you from comming.    If you just come out to play tag with us...that is absolutely free!    We here at 1SLT don't ever want to here someone say that they didn't come because they couldn't afford to go (Unless you live on the other side of the planet and the travel cost is too much).    TagFest is about having fun, not making money for 1SLT.

-Insurance!

To keep this a free event, and not have to charge $150 a person, there is no insurance for this event.   Anyone partaking in the event will have to sign a legal waver form releasing 1SLT and the Magness Memorial Tree Farm from any responsibility or irresponsibility.   You'd be wasting your time to sue us anyway...as we don't have anything to sue.   Why...cause it taint making us any money...but it is alot of fun..so we are crazy enough to keep it going.....so much for my getting rich scheme...lol...

On the other hand:   To rent the cabins, showers and the area runs 1SLT about $800, the food usually runs over $500.      For this reason we are asking people that can afford it to make as large of a donation as they can afford.     $25 per person is more than enough, unless you have deep pockets and are a really really really nice person! <grin>  Our biggest growing expense each year is food - any donations per meal is greatly appreciated.   Even if that donation is just helping out by doing dishes...grin...

This is a donation!....not a cost....   If $20 is too expensive...just donate what you can afford.... nuff said....

We do ask that anyone eating the food and making use of the cabins do their best to try and donate at least $5...or at least help out with clean up.

Have a bunch of old laser tag, airsoft, paintball, or watergun gear that you have no use for.....then save some moola, clean out your storage, and donate the gear!    The gear will be sold on 1SLT or through ebay to pay off this years event and any excess goes into an account that helps pay 1SLT features like the free classifieds section, and future events.

-Age Group

TagFest is an event for all ages!   Last Year's event had people from the ages of 13-48 (and no we won't say who the 48 year old was! <sniker>), with the majoriety of people being over 28 years old.     To be on the safe legal side, we have to ask that anyone under the age of 18 be accompanied by at least 1 parent or legal guardian.

TagFest is a NO CONTACT mature event!  No! - don't let your mind go even near the gutter (bad boy/girl!).   What we mean by this is that we ask people not come, or bring anyone if that person is not a good sport.     Laser Tag is a fast paced game and many of the people attending are very good at it.     You can be "Tagged out" very quickly and many times in an hours worth of playing.      Some would consider this as loosing alot of games very quickly....those people would be very disheartened,  and their attitude not very happy - Notice the TagFest logo has a SMILEY face...the taggers at this event should follow our logo's example.    If you tend to have a frown on your face instead of a smile...then chances are you should not attend this event.

Some other people...would get out there and do their best to make a win for their team and have a major exciting adreneline rush from taking on multiple taggers and getting in a few good hits before being  slaughtered by photons....!!!!!   And spend the rest of their time in the Dead Zone excitedly talking on how they got a good hit on one of the advanced players like LaserBait.    If you are one of these people...then WE WANT YOU TO DEFINATELY COME!!!!!     TagFest needs lots of good photon fodder!       Hey don't sweat it...I was major photon fodder last year...but I'm getting better! ;)

IF YOU HAVE A NEED TO DESTROY, MAIM, HURT, DAMAGE, OR PULVERIZE, PEOPLE OR PROPERTY.....PLEASE STAY AWAY!     This type of behavior will not be tollerated in any way shape or form.     Any persons partaking in damaging, scaring, or defacing anything at the park, may find themselves leaving the park in a police car.    The 1SLT team truly appreciates the Magness Tree Farm for allowing us to use their facilities - most other state and private parks have turned us away because of these types of activities done by other tag sports in the past.    We would like to keep the welcome mat to us open at the park.

Laser Tag doesn't leave bruises on your body or damage the surroundings...like some other tag sports like paintball....  If you are a true mature tagger...then it doesn't bruise or damage your ego, concious, or soul..    This is what we mean by the statement, "TagFest is a mature NO CONTACT event!".....nuff said.

Once again the event will be held at the Magness Memorial Tree Farm (hey we had a blast last year - lets do it again!).   There are 3 cabins with enough beds to fit 40 people, so bring sleeping bags.   We intend to have larger games with the use of  Extreme-Class gear into the weeee hours of the morning.    Check out time is 11:45 P.M. Sunday.

Smiley faces will be posted along the route to the event.

More Directions Info - Hopefully this will help you get there and not get you lost! (grin)
  • Once you get off of I-5, you should be on the side of the underpass that has a Burger King.     If you don't see a Burger King....go to the OTHER side of I-5!!!  If you still don't see a Burger King...then make sure you are in Wilsonville!   If you are in Wilsonville next to I-5, and you still don't see a Burger King - make sure you are in Oregon.    If you are in Oregon, Wilsonville, next to I-5, and you still can't find a Burger King...pinch yourself real hard as you are having a tagger nightmare!

  • After you pass the Burger King  on your right  (if its on the left your going the wrong way or in the wrong town...or you need to learn the difference between left and right), you will start heading out of town.   You will cross/pass the following: RailRoad tracks, Kinsman Rd/SW Wilsonville Rd, Brown Rd, Fair Dale Nursery, Wild Turkey Farm...and then Hunter Creek Farm.

  • After Passing Hunter Creek Farm, the road will get hilly and curvy so you must pay attention!    You will pass one turn off to the right.....not far after that...there will be another right turn at the end of the curve in the road - take this right turn!. LOOK FOR SMILEY'S,  one to let you know the turn is comming up...and one to let you know that you have taken the right turn! (SW Edminston Rd, GPS:45D16.69N,122.50.02W)

  • You will then drive a ways on back country road, eventually going up a big hill, and then you will go down the hill.   At the bottom of the hill is a stop sign (look for the smiley).   Make a right turn at the stop sign! (SW Ladd St GPS:45D17.25N,122D51.11W)

  • You will then go down that road (after making the right at the stop sign) and it will begin to get foresty.   You will pass a turn-off road on your left (there is a sign there most of the time - there will be a pinkish-redish smiley there to tell you NOT to turn).   The parking lot to the Magness Tree farm is just a little further up on the left.

  • Follow the main trail to the right of the main lodge down to the cabins and picnic benches...that is where you will find us.

GOOD LUCK!

Dave.............

Oh...for you GPS nuts out there.... Magness Tree Farm Coordinates are:

......at least thats what my GPS thingy said it was!

-ABOUT MAGNESS MEMORIAL TREE FARM

(click on map to enlarge!)

The above map gives you an idea of how big the actual park is(once again you can click on the map to download a larger picture of it.  Circle 28 is where the log cabins are notice they are on the edge of an open field (yellow), and that there is a hard top trail that circles this field just inside the tree cover.   The hill with circle 11 would be decent for a king of the hill game or another team camp.   Like I said, I'll try to get more loaded later tonight.

This is the main center which has a large meeting room.  Located at the triangle on the map to the right of point 28.   The porch to the right is the top of a small hill with a trail leading back to the log cabin area.  To the left is a road and two other trails ( you can see this if you zoom in on the map).  Could be used as a possible base, although it is fairly open and would be hard to defend.

This is the trail going down on the right side of the building to the log cabins.  Notice that the trail is paved.   The main trails are all paved (which is nice if the ground is wet).  However, there are many side dirt trails off of the main path with brush which would be perfect for ambushes.

Most of the dirt trails are covered with sawdust, which is nice if you want to run down the trail without slipping in mud.

This is the covered picnic area at the end of the trail shown above.  If you look past the picnic area, you can see the feild on which the log cabins are on.   The paved trail forked to the left of this gravel trail going across a small gully.

If you look close at the map in the middle of circle 1, there is a small screen that divides the park in half, with 3 main crossing points.   This could divide the sides, and the bridges could be crucial control points in a game with a large amount of people.

This is the three log cabins.   #1 and #3 are rather small, but the logs sticking out at the corners could make a good place to duck behind to shoot from.   Notice cabin # 3 is elevated.

This is the perfect base. A raised area with only one route to get to the top...although unfortunately it is stairs and not a ramp...okay so it is an almost perfect base.   The area under the deck is faily dark and could be used for a sentry.    Also notice that there is a path to the left. this goes to the hard top loop that circles the log cabin opening just behind the trees.  If you look at the map, you will see that the trail goes to the oppposite side of the creek opposite of the cabin.    Which means someone with a long range gun could attack and the defenders would have to cross the creek at a bridge to get to them if they wanted to charge them.   Although you could just shoot at each other across the creek.

<--Here is a shot off the hard top trail showing the little trail I mentioned off to the side of cabin #2.

To the right is a picture of one of the bridges crossing the stream.  Notice there is adequate foliage to the right and left of the bridge to lye in wait for the unwary bridge crosser.

Alas, the only thing I found as a negative for this place is that there is no drinkable water source (we have plenty of means of bringing some).   And the necessity facilities are not the greatest....oh well

"major de nada!"

At least they have a his and hers...and there are 2 sets!
